Application

Applicants who have concluded their undergraduate coursework in the areas of Agronomy, Biological Sciences or similar subject areas may apply to the Plant Physiology Program leading to the Master’s degree. Those who hold a Master’s degree in the areas of Plant Physiology, Botany or similar areas may apply to the Plant Physiology Program leading to the doctoral degree.

The following documents must be presented with the application:

  1. Copy of the diploma(s) or equivalent document(s)
  2. Undergraduate academic transcripts if applying to the Plant Physiology Program leading to the Master’s program, and academic undergraduate and graduate (Master’s) transcripts if applying to the Plant Physiology Program leading to the doctoral degree
  3. Curriculum vitae
  4. Research plan (the candidate should briefly indicate a theme for developing his/her master’s/PhD research in addition to indicating a potential adviser)
  5. A 3×4 photograph
  6. Application fee receipt
  7. Three reference letters. Download the letter template.

Reference letters should be sent through email (fvg@ufv.br) directly by the recommender. All the other documents related to the application must be sent through the website (www3.dti.ufv.br/ppg/sisppg-inscricao-pos/instrucoes-inscricao-candidato).

The selection process will be based upon:

  1. The academic performance of the applicants at the undergraduate level (and at the Master’s level, for doctoral applicants) based on an analysis of the academic transcript
  2. An analysis of the curriculum vitae, highlighting participation in scientific meetings, courses and tutoring, scientific publications (abstracts and technical notes, scientific articles, books and book chapters) and professional experience, when applicable
  3. An analysis of the reference letters
  4. A written selection exam, which will consist in the interpretation of a scientific paper.  Applicants who did not achieve a grade equal to or greater than 60% (sixty percent) in the written exam will be considered eliminated.

Deadlines

The deadline for sending all the documentation is May 30 (for the second school semester application) and September 30 (for the first school semester application).

Scholarships

Foreign students must obtain their own funds to sponsor themselves. Foreign students from African and Latin American countries that have signed a Cultural or Scientific Collaboration Agreement with Brazil through the Students’ Program-Graduate School (PEC/PG) may be granted scholarships. For further information on this program, students must contact the Brazilian Embassy in their own country.
